The perfectionist

Hello. My name is Laura and I am a perfectionist...

The problem with that is i am also a design engineer and an aspiring artist. While my job requires attention to detail it also requires that I just try things out sometimes - even if they may not be pretty or even work the first time. Art, any kind of art, is inherently messy. Quite often a way to work out our flaws and imperfections.

So it seems i'm also a bit of a sadist too, torturing myself in an attempt to both hold on to my perfectionist ways while also trying to beat it out of me. Typically this leaves me with nothing done. A camera collecting dust as I contemplate the next perfect image... New gadget designs never realized. Even here - a blog space that is empty.

One of my usual favourite coffee-break rituals is reading my friend Ms. Suz blog posts. This morning I read her latest entry, Stupid Perfectionism  and found myself at a similar point in time. While I am not in the process of planning a trip to NYC, I do see myself standing on the sidelines of my own tasks so to speak. Her resolve has inspired me. Has reminded me of some good advise. I can only plan for so long - there comes a time when one must take a chance and dive right in. Mistakes be damned. They come with anything new anyhow. Besides in the words of Suzi,
if it was intended for perfection, it probably wouldn't be mine, anyways.

Quote of the day

Prayer is not merely an occasional impulse to which we respond when we are in trouble: prayer is a life attitude.
~Walter A. Mueller An attitude I strive towards each and every day.
